Tea from Areek

Tea from Areek

We met Areek at a time when not many people knew about his project Rishe Tea. Even then, it was clear to us that it wouldn't stay that way for long. He decided to import only teas that are grown organically - without chemicals. Areek is particularly passionate about Japanese teas, where he has almost no competition in our opinion, so you'll find those from him as well, although he occasionally offers something different.

Dore ga hoshīdesu ka?

And where are the leaves?

Roast me!

Not some?

Finally something other than a greenie...

On the wave

I'm a princess, dude!

Kukicha Murakami isn't your typical green tea. It's not made from leaves but from stems and stalks. Does it sound like bullshit to you? Well, you'll be surprised. It tastes absolutely delightful, and you can enjoy it in the evening without worry because, unlike leaves, the stems contain almost no caffeine. It's also great when you let it steep in the fridge overnight! How to handle it? Add 65° water to 5 grams of tea and infuse for 4 minutes. Traditional preparation 7 grams - 70° - 30 s / 10 s / 30 s / keep adding 10-30 s every infusion You will find 50 g of tea in this beautiful japanese package.Roasted relative of kukicha. Houjicha is made similarly to kukicha, mainly from stems, but since it's additionally roasted, it has a completely unique flavor and even less caffeine content. It's a great tea even for coffee lovers who need to slow down with their caffeine intake, but the taste and aroma of coffee are their addiction. It warms you up really nice and works quite well for hangovers, but be careful, it doesn't apply to everyone. How to handle it? Add 90° water to 5 grams of tea and infuse for 4 minutes. Traditional preparation 7 grams - 90° - 30 s / 10 s / 30 s / keep adding 10-30 s every infusion You will find 50 g of tea in this beautiful japanese package.Natsume, that's the name of this sencha. Throughout the time we've known Areek, almost all of his green teas had one common flavor note - a subtle creaminess. It's great taste-wise, but it can get boring. Natsume is probably the first sencha we've had from him that doesn't have this note. Instead, it features a sweet fruity flavor and fantastic umami. If you already know something about Japanese teas, we'll just add that this sencha from Mr. Morishita is medium-steamed. How to handle it? Add 65° water to 5 grams of tea and infuse for 4 minutes. Traditional preparation 7 grams - 70° - 30 s / 10 s / 30 s / keep adding 10-30 s every infusion You will find 50 g of tea in this beautiful japanese package. We used to argue for a long time that in Japan, they don't know how to make good oolongs (semi-oxidized teas), then Areek imported his Haiku oolong, and we had to admit that it's no longer true. However, we still insisted that they can't make light oolongs. And now there's this piece, Takasago Oolong from Mr. Suzuki, and we have to admit that it's simply fantastic. So lightly oxidized that it's almost a green tea, beautifully creamy and full-bodied in flavor. A great new discovery and a must-have. How to handle it? Add 90° water to 5 grams of tea and infuse for 4 minutes. Traditional preparation 7 grams - 90° - 30 s / 10 s / 30 s / keep adding 10-30 s every infusion You will find 50 g of tea in this beautiful japanese package. This sencha we had already several years ago when Areek first imported it, and since then it has been among our favorites. And it's not just because of our favorite 'The Wave off Kanagawa' that is on its packaging. Unlike other senchas in our offer, it stands out with its distinct uplifting character, umami, and vivid green color. Overall, it's just powerful. If you're wondering why, it's because this sencha is deeply steamed. It comes from one of the first families from which Areek started importing teas, the Kinezuka family. Simply classic. Why 'Princess'? Sasahime, the name of this gyokuro by Areek's gyokuro guru Master Sakamoto, translates to 'Princess of the Night' in Japanese. This has been our favorite gyokuro for years and still ranks among our favorites. It has two main reasons. Firstly, unlike most gyokuros, it has a really friendly price. The second reason is that while it has a pronounced umami flavor, as you would expect from this type of tea, it also has a great refreshing citrus taste, making it an incredibly refreshing experience. And the picture on the packaging? That was painted by Master Sakamoto himself. How to handle it? Add 65° water to 5 grams of tea and infuse for 4 minutes. Traditional preparation 7 grams - 60° - 30 s / 10 s / 30 s / keep adding 10-30 s every infusion You will find 50 g of tea in this beautiful japanese package.
